Summer Birthdays

Summer, the time of year when going to bed at three in the morning and waking up past noon is considered normal. After spending 5 or 6 months in school it is time for a break filled with activities the whole family will enjoy, and memories that will last a lifetime. Year to year vacations in my family vary. One year it may be exploring a different country, while the other may consist of being tourist in our own state. Wherever we end up going that year i can always tell it will be a great time. A very memorable event that i look forward to the most during the summer would be my birthday.

Having a summer birthday is both a blessing and a curse. The thrilling part about having a summer birthday is being able to do many activities that are not available all year round such as camping or swimming. The only downside would have to be the humidity and all the creepy crawly bugs that always appear whenever you least expect them. In the mexican culture turning 15 is the coming of age. Multiple girls my age had been planning there quinceanera since the day they could voice their own opinion. Myself on the other hand was not your typical 14 year old. By the way i was raised I was not a big fan of being the center of attention. By being the oldest female of my cousins on my mom's side of the family I would be the first niece to have a quincenera. Many of my relatives could not wait to start planning the big event . If i'm being honest i just thought they wanted to throw a big party so they could invite all of their friends or post all about it on social media. Even though the idea of being able to wear a big poofy dress and getting all glammed up for a day sounded pleasant , it was just not a situation I could see myself being comfortable in. I was very grateful for having parents who were supportive when i told them I did not want to have a big party. Since it was my special day I had to plan something to remember my fifteenth birthday. I was thrilled when my parents gave me the option of renting a beach house in florida and inviting any relatives that would like to come along. The day I announced to my relatives that i did not want a big celebration you could tell they were a little hurt ,but still understood that it was my day and i had the right to pick what i did on my special day.

As the getaway approached i got a butterfly feeling in my stomach. The week before you leave on vacation is always ecstatic ,yet a little bit stressful. The thing i look forward to the most when going on vacation is shopping for travel supplies. No matter how hard you try to buy the objects only on your list you will always end up buying more than what you need. The night before going on vacation is always the worst because you have all these thoughts running through your mind about what you will be encountering in the next twenty four hour. The road trip to florida was filled with disney movies , tellings of family stories, and my little cousins asking if we had reached our destination every ten minutes. After a tedious 18 hours filled with many pit stops we had finally arrived at our home for the week.

My birthday week was filled with many different types of activities such as relaxing at the white sanded beaches, taking pictures next to cinderella's castle, and multiple shopping trips to the local gift shops. To this day i am very satisfied with the decision that i made. I am well aware that i could of gone on vacation any other year ,but to me that is how i wanted to remember my fifteenth birthday. A time filled with close family making memories that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
